Start with where you are today.

Whether you are planning a home, watching construction move forward, or preparing for the walkthrough, the most useful information is the information you can use now.

I’m planning a home

Before work begins, get clear on what is included, which decisions are yours, and when those decisions are needed.

Questions to take into your next conversation:

  • What is included in the current scope, and what remains undecided?
  • Which selections have deadlines or long lead times?
  • How will changes be priced, documented, and approved?
  • Who is my main contact, and how will updates be shared?

My home is under construction

Keep track of progress and decisions without turning every concern into a confrontation. Ask what happens next, record the response, and follow up when needed.

Questions to take into your next conversation:

  • What work is planned next, and what does it depend on?
  • What needs to be documented before it is covered?
  • Is this an isolated issue or a repeated pattern?
  • Who will address this concern, and when should we follow up?

I’m preparing for the final walkthrough

Make time to look carefully, ask questions, and understand how remaining items will be handled. Keep a written record of the items discussed and the agreed next steps.

Questions to take into your next conversation:

  • What remains unfinished, and how will those items be tracked?
  • Who is responsible for each follow-up item?
  • How do I report a concern after handover?
  • Which operating instructions and warranty documents will I receive?

Keep the conversation useful

Describe what you observed. Identify the location. Ask for an explanation or next step. Record the answer. A clear question usually helps more than an accusation.
