Oversight Without Hostility — HBU video

Being involved in your home build does not require turning every question into a confrontation. It does require clear observations, useful questions, and a record of what was agreed.

Start with what you can describe: the location, the condition you noticed, and the question you need answered. Give the builder a chance to explain the situation. If action is needed, clarify who will handle it and when you should follow up.

A useful way to raise a concern

“I noticed this in the upstairs bathroom. Can you explain whether it is expected at this stage? If it needs attention, what is the next step and when should I check back?”

Write down the response and the agreed follow-up. If the same concern keeps returning, use the documented pattern to guide the next conversation.

Respectful communication does not mean ignoring a concern. It means making the issue specific enough to address.

Takeaway: Describe the observation, ask for the next step, and document the answer.
